 Data Services and Data Architect Lead

Position Purpose and Scope : Wallenius Wilhelmsen Digital and IT is building its data strategy & architecture for Data Lake, Enterprise Data Warehouse and advanced analytical capabilities including  Machine-Learning and AI..

This role will link the business users with technology teams to develop data products, supporting business needs as well as translating and communicating requirements for the technical architecture and roadmap for our Enterprise Data Hub and Data Lake.

As Data Architect Lead in the Digital organization, you will be responsible for defining a data strategy that meets the needs of our analytics teams, with particular emphasis on Vessel Optimization, Finance & Control and sustainability in addition to core operational systems, customer-facing web and mobile applications. You will work closely with operations business analysts, Corporate I/T, business analysts and peer architects to understand user requirements/needs and available disparate data pipes to determine the optimal approach to managing (load, store, access, and govern) the data in our data platform – including relational databases and Big Data.

This role will work closely with stakeholders in EMEA & Oceania and lead a small team of Data Engineers. This role will also ensure Data Services within the portfolio are implemented and delivered, as well as aligning joint initiatives with the other Technology Services teams.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead a team in developing within our Enterprise Data Lake / Data hub to enable advanced analytical capabilities on Customer and Operational Analytics, AI capabilities,  finance , transportation and supply chain domains
• Lead the development of data products to support defined use cases
• Re-engineering of the existing Data warehouse solutions to the MS Azure Cloud platform.
• Partner with Infrastructure/Data-Engineering teams to enable the roadmap and direction of advance-analytics.
• Work on our Cloud/Data Lake strategy enabling advanced analytics, dashboarding and reporting
• Manage teams/vendors to design, build and deploy Advance analytics and dashboarding solutions
• Managing implementation of designed solutions

As a Data technologies champion, lead the definition of the methodology and roadmap for strategically and tactically remediating the logical data architecture. Support the definition and articulation of data related issues as well as the solutions for remediation.

Experience, Skills & Knowledge

• Technical background- BS/BA or Advanced degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, f, Engineering, or other Computational Science)
• 8+ Years of experience in Data Management Strategy related to Big-Data, EDW and/or Distributed processing platforms
• 5+ Years of experience building Data Lake foundations/platforms and associated analytics & services (MS Azure, AWS, Snowflake, Hadoop, Etc).
• Very strong experience and knowledge of MS Azure Cloud Platform and data management components is Mandatory. Certification as an Azure Data Engineer a plus.
• 4+ ETL/ELT experience in traditional data (MSSQL, MySQL, Oracle etc.) and/or Big data platform using Hadoop ecosystem (Spark, Hive, Pig, Sqoop, Flume etc.)
• 3 plus years’ heavy hands-on experience with BI tools ( architecture, design and delivery) primarily Tableau and Power BI with strong knowledge on data architecture for reporting and analytics.
• Experience with Data management on public cloud hosting services (e.g., Azure, AWS)
• Deep knowledge in architectural patterns for integration and data exchange.
• Transportation and Logistics background would be a plus, but not mandatory
• Experience of the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
• Able to work across multiple departments and with stakeholders in different countries and companies and manage various reviews and sign offs as part of delivery
• Able to identify problems and ensure the prioritization and escalation is appropriate
• To be flexible in approach and able to manage changing priorities
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and able to communicate effectively and appropriately to staff at all levels
