Head of Research & Development, Oceanbird

Oceanbird is moving into the realization phase of our wing sails, which will revolutionize the shipping industry. During the year to come, we will test our first full-scale prototypes and at the same time prepare for moving into a commercial phase with focus on getting the wing sail out on the market. While optimizing the current wing design, we are also looking into adapting the design for other segments, sizes and routes.

We are looking for someone to take the lead in that transition. As Head of Research & Development, you are responsible for the technical development, including mechanical engineering, structural design, automation and documentation. However, you will not do it alone. You will have a strong and competent team of 13 employees and 5-10 consultants. You will also have back-up outside the company through our long-term partnerships and mother companies: Alfa Laval and Wallenius.

You will have budget responsibility, report to the Managing Director and be a part of Oceanbird’s Management Team.

Who are you?

To succeed in this role, you should have:

• High technical competence and preferable experience from large components
• Competence in Design for manufacturing
• A drive to set clear targets and deadlines, and deliver on these
• Strong leadership competence with a proven track record of creating great teams
• Good communication skills
• Experience or interest in the marine industry
• An interest in sustainability and a willingness to contribute to a better future

This role is located in Stockholm, Tumba.
